Reported execution: analysis fed a new film
WPP says Fellini Forward used AI tools to extract patterns in Federico Fellini transcripts and analyse his repertoire, camera movement and facial emotion. Wunderman Thompson then built scriptwriting and previsualisation tools around those learnings for Campari. The agency says original crew members were consulted and that the team could accept or amend machine suggestions while constructing the final script.
That division of labour matters. The public case does not describe an old director being resurrected by a system; it describes a new production using archival analysis as a structured creative input.
Our reading: the archive is a responsibility
A named artist's style creates a powerful shorthand, but it can turn a production into an imitation contest. The more useful question is which characteristics can inform a new work without claiming authorship for someone who cannot approve it. Consultation, transparent framing and a live human decision point are not decorative safeguards here.
For a similar brief, define what the model may propose and what it may not settle. Put the source material, rights position and expert review into the production plan before a generated suggestion becomes a finished scene.
Evidence boundary: cultural attention is not a controlled result
WPP reports press attention, awards and impressions, but the public page does not offer a control that isolates the AI-assisted process from Campari, the Fellini association, distribution or conventional production craft.
The case supports a narrower conclusion: archival analysis can be used to structure an original brand film when human authorship and editorial responsibility remain explicit. It cannot validate a claim that a model has recovered a filmmaker’s intent.
